Ligna 2025: VOLLMER brings precision to the wood industry 2025-04-02
to overviewVOLLMER welcomes the international woodworking community to stand B50 in hall 27 at the Ligna 2025 trade fair in Hanover. The Biberach-based sharpening specialist will be showcasing its sharpening machines and its automated and digital solutions for the woodworking industry on a 270 m2 stand from 26th to 30th May. For the first time, VOLLMER is presenting its IoT cloud in combination with an AI application that can be used to record, process and manage centralised machine data. The VPulse 500 wire erosion machine and the CS 860 grinding machine for carbide-tipped circular saw blades from its machine fleet will also be on display. VOLLMER subsidiary Loroch will also be represented with its TWIN 860 2-in-1 solution, which can grind both high-speed steel and carbide-tipped circular saws.
The machining of wood or composite materials is wholly dependent on the sharpening of circular saws, band saws and rotary tools. Sharpening specialist VOLLMER offers automated grinding, erosion and laser machines and a range of services to ensure precision machining. Whether high-speed steel, carbide or ultra-hard cutting materials such as PCD (polycrystalline diamond) or PcBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride), VOLLMER is a full-line supplier, designing customised sharpening processes for tool machining and accompanying them with digital solutions from its V@dison portfolio for improved performance and more efficient maintenance.
VOLLMER débuts the IoT cloud
VOLLMER is presenting its IoT cloud for the first time at Ligna 2025. This solution enables customers to record, process and manage digital machine data via a central platform. The information is collected via the VOLLMER IoT gateway and can then be displayed on a dashboard for monitoring purposes. Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) based on LLM (Large Language Models), the cloud solution has a chatbot to retrieve documentation or live data from the machines. The chatbot informs users about machine utilisation, the number of tools produced or missing parts, for example.
Wire erosion machine for precise PCD tools
Vollmer will be exhibiting the VPulse 500 wire erosion machine from its machine park, which is not only available at particularly attractive conditions as a special “Edition 1000”, but also underlines the unique success of the Vollmer machine. Thanks to its innovative technology, the VPulse 500 is one of Vollmer's bestsellers and impresses customers worldwide with its outstanding precision and efficiency. Thanks to its stable 5-axis kinematics, the VPulse 500 is suitable for the precise machining of PCD-tipped rotary tools - even unmanned and around the clock. An efficient control system combined with the Vpulse EDM erosion generator ensures a higher removal rate or optimized surface quality. The VPulse 500 achieves a high degree of profile accuracy, particularly with tools used in the woodworking industry for machining laminates or composite materials, for example.
Two grinding machines for circular saws
Whether in saw mills, the furniture industry or house construction, the circular saw is the endurance athlete of precise wood cutting. The VOLLMER CS 860 and Loroch TWIN 860 grinding machines, both of which will be on display in Hanover, are designed for precise sharpening of circular saws. The CS 860 and its twin sister (the CSF 860) offer fully automated sharpening of carbide-tipped circular saws on tooth faces and tooth tops as well as flanks. The grinding machine is equipped with the VOLLMER IoT gateway as standard, and also runs unmanned around the clock thanks to different ND handling systems. At Ligna, the CS 860 will be connected to the Filtration System 400, or VFS 400 for short. The cleaning system enables ultra-fine filtration of cooling oil or dielectric from up to two VOLLMER sharpening machines. With the TWIN 860 grinding machine, Loroch has a 2-in-1 solution that can sharpen both high-speed steel and carbide-tipped circular saws. Thanks to the combined TWIN process, not only can customers save the space needed for a second machine, but they can also control the grinding of different types of circular saws uniformly via a touch screen, making it easier to operate.
"Ligna is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and we at VOLLMER have always been at the party," says Tobias Trautmann, CEO of VOLLMER. "Once again this year, we want to use the trade fair as a targeted way to make personal contact with our customers and interested parties, and present our latest innovations to the wood industry."
